Back to Africa

I leave for South Africa on Friday for a 3 week adventure with my best friend Liz who is from South Africa. Last time I was on the continent was in 2004 when I spent 5 weeks in East and North Africa. Unlike last time where I had a nearly definitive itinerary of where I’d be and what I’d be doing day to day, this trip is entirely unplanned except for our plane flights! Our main agenda item is Liz’s sister having a baby, and that also is fluid!

I am excited to be in untamed lands in an untamed manner.

We have a list of places we’d like to go. Of places Liz would like to show me from her youth and pride in country. Of service work we’d like to do. And, we are both fully prepared for the list to fly out the window into the great expanse of South Africa. We are prepared to ebb with the tides, float with the wind, and step aside when the wildlife comes charging through.

We will be two friends in a country of one.
We will be grateful for the time.
We will embrace the adventure.
We will be present.

What do you need to let go of control of?
What do you need to be present to?
